Switzerland's largest bank, UBS (Stockholm: DUXMMY.ST - news) , is eyeing opportunities to expand its investment banking franchise around the world. "We see in the United States, in Europe, and in Asia some growth potential for investment banking," group president Peter Wuffli said in a magazine interview."Maybe not at two-digit rates, like in the 1990s, but still with a high one-digit growth rate," Mr Wuffli told the Schweizer Bank magazine.

Mr Wuffli said investment banking was likely to be driven by industry consolidation in Europe.

Privatisation

Spin-offs and moves to take companies private would help its US business, he said.

UBS, which owns investment bank UBS Warburg, had added some 350 investment bankers in the US, he added.

It had raised its market share there to 3.9% last year from 3.5% the year before.
