LONDON, March 3 (Itar-Tass) - The United States is planning to use highly toxic gases against Iraq in violation of the International Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction. The British newspaper ''The Independent on Sunday" writes that this could split the Anglo-American coalition.

ロンドン、3月3日(イタル・タス通信)―英国の新聞"インディペンデント・オン・サンデー」は、アメリカは、イラクに対して「化学兵器の禁止およびそれらの破壊に関する国際協定」を破る高度に有毒のガスを使用することを計画している。これが英米の連合を分割するかもしれないと書きます。

The Pentagon, it reports, is planning to use "tranquillising, controlling" gases in Iraq. A representative of the U.S. Marine Corps acknowledged last week that CS and mustard gases were already shipped to the Gulf. In turn, U.S. Rear Admiral Steven Baker told the newspaper that special American units were armed with "knock-out" gases, which are known to neutralize human beings.

If U.S. special units were to employ such gases, the newspaper points out, Washington will loose the backing of its British allies because London had banned the use of these gases.
