"America the risky?" The Economist October 4th 2003 p.84

リーマン・ブラザーズ証券はDamoclesと呼ばれる経済早期警報システムを使って、投資家が損失を出すのを防止するのに役立てているが、最近、この警報システムを使ってアメリカ経済を調査したところ、増えつづける経常収支赤字、海外債務などの要因により１２ヶ月以内に危機に陥る確立は3分の１という衝撃的な結論が得られた。
。ただし、貧乏な国はドル建ての債務があるので、自国通貨が暴落すると経済危機となるが、米国はラッキーなことに自国通貨建ての債務しかないのである。

When Lehman ran America's economic numbers through Damocles, the outcome was striking, With its rapidly climbing current-account deficit andforeign debt, among other worries, America's Damocles index in just shy of 75.
A reading above 75 indicates that a count has a one-in-three chance of a crisis in the next 12 months; a figure above 100 implies a 50-50 chance.
Granted. Poorer countires tend to owe dollars, and therefore suffer when their currencies fall. Lucky America, of course, owes its own currency.
