SATISFACTION AND GLOATING, BUT NOT A CONFESSION
A question was posed from the British Press regarding the statement of Osama
Bin Ladin which al-Jazeera has broadcast in which he confessed to enjoining
of aggression towards America. To this, al-Qaradawi said that the statement
was one of satisfaction and gloating, but not a confession. Regarding the
mistaken and heretical statements of Bin Ladin and the declaration of kufr
upon him, the Shaykh said, “This issue goes back to intentions. It may be
that an individual is mistaken or corrupted in his manner of thinking, but
the issue depends upon his intentions. I cannot declare him kaafir, nor can
I declare him faasiq, as some of the others have done. However, we erred in
neglecting him when events such as this have ensued. I say to America that
it has forged from for the Muslims a symbol of uprising in the world against American hegemony."
