Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ denounce elections as “illegal.”
In its first official statement on the sham elections held on Sunday, 30 January, the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ Scholars issued a statement Wednesday that denounced those elections as “lacking legitimacy in form and content.”
The Board’s statement noted that a large number of Sunni Iraqis did not participate in the so-called election. It also noted that “there were many groups that took no part in the election and boycotted it.”
The Board also called on the United Nations not to interfere in Iraqi affairs by pronouncing the fraudulent elections “legal.”
The Board also said that the “transitional” government to be formed on the basis of those illegal elections would itself lack legitimacy and would not therefore be authorized to write a constitution or sign economic or security agreements with other countries.
