Tokyo, Japan (CNN) -- A 19-year-old man was arrested Thursday, accused of using his cell phone to post questions of Kyoto University entrance exams on the internet to solicit answers, Kyoto police said.

The case has sparked a scandal in the Japanese education community and spurred a national manhunt. Three other universities -- Waseda, Doshisha, and Rikkyo -- are claiming they found the same kind of internet posting of entrance exams and are investigating, Japanese media said.

The incident started in February when the four universities said they suspected that someone had started a live online cheating session while taking entrance exams.

The universities said the test-taker used his phone to post test questions online to a question-and-answer website called Chiebukuro or Pearls of Wisdom.

The query was posted by a person who was only identified on the website as "aicezuki."

Education officials at the time said they would have to analyze tests taken by 30,000 people to see if they could find the cheater.

"It is not a simple cheating case, but a conduct of someone who want to disturb the examination system itself," Yoichi Shimada, the director of the board of Waseda University, told reporters.

Police then launched a national manhunt for "aicezuki," which appeared to be a made-up word.

Police said Thursday the man was found in the northern Japanese city of Sendai and later arrested.

The teen's parents had reported him missing. The teen's mother was the subscriber of the phone the teen used and the phone had evidence the teen took entrance exams at all four universities, Japanese media reported.
