PHOTOS: Since the beginning of the war in Iraq, 4,000 American service members and civilian military workers have died. The following 1,002 people have been identified since Jan. 1, 2007, when The New York Times published an accounting of the third group of 1,000 to die, some of whom were unidentified until now. The dead represent the highest toll since the Vietnam War. Biographical information and photographs for service members who have died since the war began are available online at nytimes.com/national.
